Sport Psychology is a service typically offered to athletes once they've reached the elite or professional levels. The shortcomings of this approach is that athletes who have achieved elite levels often employ many useful strategies already whereas minor athletes who are developing, could see the greatest impact in learning these techniques at an early age in their development.

Learning skills such as mental toughness, achieving optimal performance states, and focus not only better one's performance as an athlete, but are skills than can be transferred into performance tasks in life.  For example, preparing for a final exam, a high stakes job interview and other performance tasks in life can be enhanced by learning these skills.
